I have to write a paper about a controversial movie...?!

Question: i have to write an essay on a movie that has strongly divergent critical opinions about it. something like a highly controversial movie such as Passion of the Christ. in the essay i will have to analyze the review of critics who love the movie, some critics who hated it, as well as make my own judgement....

i need help coming up with a movie that i will be able to find a lot of info, and that will be interesting as well because im not the best writer i need to keep their attention somehow....

can anyone give me a few ideas for movies and what that movie is about? thanks!!!

Taxi Driver..Directed by Martin Scorsece and lead roles by Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster. It was released around 1973- 1974 and was considered highly controversial at the time and to date is still considered amongst the most controversial films. Get the film and have a watch see if it fits the category for your assignment.................All the best I hope whichever film you choose gets you a fantastic grade.................. Sorry i forgot to give you a quick run down on what the film is about, Street walkers, sleeze bags, drugs, money etc etc...all those lovely things associated with the underworld and of course there is the good guy( Robert De Niro) who plays a mean *** vigilante particularly interested in helping a young messed up street hooker (Jodie Foster).. Hope I was a help and if not like i said i hope you get a good grade regardless :)

heres an online list of controversial movies:

Right now, "The Golden Compass" (2007) seems to be inspiring lots of debate! I've seen three questions about it already on Y!A. It has the Christian community quite perturbed.

You might look into the movie and the book it is based on. Here's the IMDB site:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385752/
SUMMARIES:
"It was no ordinary life for a young girl: living among scholars in the hallowed halls of Jordan College and tearing unsupervised through Oxford's motley streets on mad quests for adventure. But Lyra's greatest adventure would begin closer to home, the day she heard hushed talk of an extraordinary particle. Microscopic in size, the magical dust- found only in the vast Artic expanse of the North -was rumored to possess profound properties that could unite whole universes. But there were those who feared the particle and would stop at nothing to destroy it. Catapulted into the heart of a terrible struggle, Lyra was forced to seek aid from clans, gyptians, and formidable armored bears. And as she journeyed into unbelievable danger, she had not the faintest clue that she alone was destined to win, or to lose, this more-than-mortal battle.

"Adaptation of the Carnegie Medal-winning novel by Philip Pullman, the first volume in the His Dark Materials trilogy. In a parallel Oxford, young Lyra Belacqua begins a dimension-crossing odyssey that builds from a merely atypical children's adventure into a complex (and frequently quite dark) philosophical epic."

I think a movie that stirs much debate is the movie "The Grapes of Wrath" It's about a family that came from the dust bowl era in Oklahoma. One of my favorite movies. The tragedy of this story lies in the simplicity and impossibility of their dream: a house, a family, and a steady job. This movie is highly controversial and many critics have written about this great classic. Certainly based on a true story with all the hardships of struggling to survive in the US during very tough times.

My pick would be "A Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick. The movie was good, book better. Load of literary critisms on it. Good Luck

Hi Layla,
You've got a tough project ahead of you but judging by your YA search I'm sure you'll do fine.

1 "Last Temptation of Christ" Lots of controversy on this one. (by the way, you must see this movie beginning to end to understand why)
2 "Inconvenient Truth" Reviews and debates continue.
3 "Birth of a Nation" Very controversial silent film, lots of racism, and historical/social commentary.
4 "Bowling for Columbine" Pseudo documentary, lots of controversy.
5 "Million Dollar Baby" 1994 Has Euthanasia controversy

u r sweet if u do.

Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, a great film and at the time of release was considered very controversial , earning itself an x rating. wasnt released here (UK) again until 2000.
Malcolm McDowell is excellent in it , i know its horrible but the singing in the rain scene makes me chuckle every time (does that make me strange?) oh well!
oh sorry the plot , ah yes its about a bunch of horrible teens in England that thrive on "ultra violence" and rape blah blah, Malcom McDowell being the gang leader.

American Me
DaVinci Code
Spike Lee's Jungle Fever

Here's a feature I wrote (and updated last year, when The Da Vinci Code came out) that lists several of the most controversial movies of all time -- their plots, the arguments that surrounded them, and how those controversies ultimately played out.
