I just watched Mr. Brooks the other day and I thought it was pretty good.
Entre Las Piernas(Spain 1999). Thriller, along the lines of Hitchcock.
The movie Seven was an absolute thriller with a crazy ending...
Books...Dennis Lehane(Mystic River) wrote Shutter Island
which was a cool change from his Boston-based novels.
This book surprised me, sucked me in, many twists and an
unpredictable end.
These are good thrillers recently on DVD.

As for books I personally am a huge fan of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child novels. Especially the ones with Agent Pendergast. So I would recommend the latest trilogy starting with Brimstone, Dance of Death, and finally The Book of the Dead.

Gothika is really good (although it's not near as recent)
Seven is also really good (it definitely isn't recent though, but one of my favorites)
Deja Vu with Denzel Washington is also really good if you like the suspense thriller as opposed to the psychological thriller.
Mr. Brooks was the best thriller I've seen in a long time. We just rented it the other night. It was surprisingly good. I can't really picture Kevin Costner as the "bad guy," because he will always be Crash Davis to me. But, good movie.
