I thought the part was played very well. The movie made me think a lot. About evangelical Christianity and all. I am Christian, but I am not into that bible beating, hoopin' and hollerin' stuff. That movie made me think a lot about how preachers like that get to be the way they are, how they grow in their ministry like that...........very interesting
I'm not too fond of organized religion, but I loved this movie. It was very inspirational. Sonny was a flawed man who had made mistakes but was devoted to his version of faith. Even in the last scene, you could see his love of God and his fellow man spreading to everyone he comes into contact with. I don't go to church or profess to being 'saved', but I can respect Sonny's character.
