I don't understand the ending to the movie Mystic River. Can someone please !

The boyfriend's brother(deaf kid) and friend was involved in killing the girl. The deaf kid's friend wanted to kill the brother because the boyfriend learned he and his brother were in on the murder of his girlfriend(it was a prank gone bad) and beat both of them down when he realized they were the ones responsible for the murder. The last part with Sean Penn and his wife was stupid to me and I think Kevin Bacon knew Sean killed their friend and was giving Sean the look before picking him up for murder.
It's been a while since I watched the movie so I don't remember all the details.
As I remember, the Tim Robbins character was set up as the potential killer but it turned out he killed a neighborhood pervert.
I believe the girl was accidentally killed by a kid playing with a gun.
But I'm not going to swear to any of this because it's been 3 (?) years since I watched the movie.
From what I can remember, Tim Robbins' character (Dave?) killed the guy who killed the girl. Sean Penn's character thought Dave killed her, so he had his crew kill Dave. SP found out later that he'd made a mistake. So to make up for it, SP basically is financially taking care of Dave's family from that point on.
I've only seen it once so I probably have my info all screwed up.
if my memory serves me right, Tim Robbins killed a gay who was molesting a boy, because it also happened to him in the beginning of the movie.. Sean Penn thought that Tim Robbins is the one who killed her daughter because there was a scene that Tim Robbins went home with blood in his hands and his wife witnessed it the same night when Sean's daughter was killed. When Tim Robbins' wife told Sean Penn her fear and conclusion, Sean went mad and killed Tim ignoring Tim's explanation. In the end, Kevin Bacon, the investigator found out who killed Sean's daughter but it was too late because Tim is already dead. Sean realized that Tim's explanation that he did not kill his daughter was true. The three of them were childhood friends by the way.
