Lars and the Real Girl starring Ryan Gosling (The Notebook). It's hilarious, it's sweet, it's heart-rending, it's an unusual love story. I hope it wins Oscars for Gosling, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Emily Mortimer.
American Gangster (with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe) is a great film. A fascinating plot told with exciting action and powerhouse acting.
It's a heavy film though - long and violent. If you want light entertainment: Dan in Real Life (with Steve Carell and Juliette Binoche). A charming, well-acted dramedy.
