Logan's Run is about a society of the future where the natural environment is uninhabitable, so every lives in a glass enclosed city. They can't afford to have population growth, or else they'd outgrow their artificial environment, so everyone has a crystal embedded in their palm that indicates their phase of life. The crystal goes black at age 30, indicating it's time to die. Only people have to be tricked into thinking they're going to some glorious afterworld in order to die voluntarily. Logan doesn't want to die at 30, so he runs away and escapes the enclosed city, only to discover that the natural world is indeed inhabitable. He also encounters an old man for the first time and is transformed by the experience.

Now on the run himself, and hunted by his partner and best friend Francis 7, Logan and a woman named Jessica 6 working for a underground resistance group that are helping all Runners search for Sanctuary escapes from the domed city and find themselves in a devastated Washington D.C, where Logan and Jessica discover another world and find there is much to live for and Logan begins to question the system.
