Lord of the rings part 3: why did frodo, frodos uncle, gandalf, and two elves le!

Question: of the movie? where were they going?

Answers: of the movie? where were they going?

they went to Valinor, the true home of the Elves and the home of the lords (gods, remember the Varda that Galadriel keeps on mentioning?) of Arda (Earth), from which the Elves fled in rebellion, and to which they were now allowed to return. Bilbo was given place on that ship due to his merit as the Ring-finder and as a special friend to the Elves, while Frodo took Arwen's place in the ship, which he in turn deserved as the Ringbearer.

of course the sequence of events in the book can explain it better, so I really recommend that you read the trilogy, but the sum of this is, as you may have noted Galadriel say, "The power of the three Rings has ended. The time has come for the dominion of Men."

The book Silmarillion, which is to the Elves what The Hobbit is-well, for the Hobbits, tells that Iluvatar (God) created two different races, with the Elves as the firstborn and Men the younger children (Dwarves were a different story). And the main difference between the two was that Iluvatar gifted Men with the special gift of death, so that they left the world altogether; but the Elves' real home, before they ever fled to Middle-Earth due to a rebellion (I know I'm leaving a lot of threads and ends loose, for the backstories wold really need a lot of time and space to recount) was Valinor, and their hearts forever longed to return to it. Ths Valinor is like a Paradise, similar somewhat to the Golden Age of Greek Mythology under Chronos. Since Men were to die, they were not allowed to go to Valinor; and the ship that took Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, Bilbo and Frodo took ways out and beyond Middle-Earth, a way specially given to Elves' knowledge alone. They left Middle-Earth, since the power of the Rings was all that preserved the things they loved and the places in which they lived from the ravages of time and Progress- the Mallorn trees, Rivendell, Lothlorien- "had ended" and their power was slowly fading away.

After all, Tolkien designated Middle-Earth to be an alternate Earth (its map was based broadly on Europe), and Middle-Earth's history an alternate history to ours. Elves were fated to leave, Men were fated to prosper and rule over Middle-Earth; thousands of years and here we are. If this were true, Frodo and Bilbo might still be alive, as Valinor is a place that death cannot touch, save through war and destruction.

Lord of the Rings is such a beautiful story, isn't it? I love the books and the movies so much. I hope it cleared up some things and introduced some new things to you, and helped you understand the story some more.

hold on

My favorite response for why what happens in a movie, "It's in the script."

they were going home?
i dont really know
i watched it a long time ago

I believe that it was their way of "dying" at the end.

read the book it tells you to vahala a place at the end of everything but read the book it goes into detail

traveling to different lands to live the rest of their lives peacefully without the treat of sourmor
i think...yup,,

Middle Earth was entering a new age of Man.
frodo, frodos uncle, gandalf, and All elves leave as their time in middle Earth was at an end.

because they were all ring bearers, had born one of the rings of power for a long period of time. Sam had only weilded one for a short time which is why he was told "not yet" Gandalf and the two elves (Galendrail and Eltheron i think) wore the three rings, mentiond at the begining of the verse
Three rings for the Elven kings atop their great thrones
Seven for the dwarven lords...

Ever read the book "bored with the rings"
Hop a Hill Pop a Pill
Drop the Mescalino
Stash the hash
Gonna crash
make mine methedrino
Seriously..was a take off on the trilogy / forget who wrote it, but above was a song sang by "Frito" & "Spam" after meeting Gollum

Frodo had to leave because, even though the ring was destroyed, It's power over him was not fading fast enough. The shire no longer meant much to Frodo and he could not rest when he was there so he traveled to a new land to escape the clutch and power the ring had over him. ( Bilbo, Frodos Uncle who also bore the ring, left for same reason.)

Gandalf had to leave because his time there was done. Thats how he came back when he died the first time, he said his work in the land was not complete. Once the ring was destroyed however, Gandalf left to help other places since the world of men no longer needed him.

The elves all left because it was no longer the age of elves, it was the age of men in middle earth.
