Do you think the movie "300", is racist?!

Question: I have never seen it, but my friend saw the movie and was telling me that the Persians are depicted as "dark-skinned and bloodthirsty", while the Greeks are light-skinned and brave. This is supposed to be inaccurate since both groups look similar.

Also, I heard that it was "propaganda", (due to politics today) to further dehumanize Iranians...

What do you think? Any opinions???

I actually did find this movie racist. The Greeks in that movie were supposed to be portrayed as better, braver, stronger etc. then the Persians, who were portrayed as sort of cowardly, traitorous, and blood-thirsty.

This movie was based on a Comic, yet people are saying how the battle was real. There was a battle between Greece and Persia...but the movie 300 is not a good example of how it happened. Greeks are not these all powerful fighting machines because there Greek, they were just trained more then the people of the Persian army.

The movie was based on a Frank Miller graphic novel (comic book), and when I saw it, I didn't find anything racist about it. It depicted Cyrus with a multicultural army, while the Spartans were, well, Spartans.

i think its racist to ask that questions. they are depicted as dark skin because they were. do u want al sharpton to boycott movie

No i dont think it was racists. Yet the greeks were warriors and most of the persian army were slaves (as stated in the movie). How do you know that greeks and persians look similar. And regardless of how they look today, don't you think they may have looked different the hundreds of years ago this took place.

i dont think so

no i don't find it racist, and in the movie the reason why some not all of the persians were dark skinned is because the persians had taken over other countries and had added those people to their armies and used them in war first... plus the movie was made to be very dramatic the tone in color of the movie is that so that it would be edgyier... you need to watch it for yourself

Sounds like something that an insecure person would say.
Play the race card , it works for any situation.

First, the movie 300 is a very good adaptation of the graphic novel 300 by Franck Miller. So if you don't want to watch the movie, at least read the comic to have your own opinion.

Then, it shows only one battle, the battle of the Hot Gates (the Thermopyles) when the king Leonidas and 300 soldiers didn't run away in front of the Persian army which outnumbered them. And doing this, the Spartians gave hope to the Greeks. They fighted for their freedom, they didn't want to be slaves in the Persian army.
That's why this battle is so important in the human History. This battle is the symbol of the Greek resistance, and it's the symbol of freedom too.

So I guess that Franck Miller wanted to give a homage to this battle and to those Spartan soldiers and their courage and sacrifice. But the graphic novel don't show the reality, it's not a History book, it shows the point of view of Miller.

Well, I wrote a lot, but all I want to say is that 300 is not racist, it's just a heroic fantasy adaptation, and it's not written for the historic view.

Well the Spartans look like Greeks, just tanned. Where as the 'Persian Empire' was spread across many continents, including Africa and most of Asia. I honestly think people read way too much into things. The persians were mainly dark skinned, I mean if you start seeing a bunch of Swedish guys combing there hair in the background you'd probably turn it off or laugh and I don't think that's what it is about.

No it was not racist. It is Hollywood. And for politics this is done every day just like the penguin movie to indoctrinate children in to the new age religion of global warming.

It is all fiction when the movie people get to it and for the person who is reading more in to it they should lighten up as no human is not racist and the ones who claim they are not or are offended are must times the worst.

I think you missed the gist
of this movie. The Persians
were the bad guys and I
agree with Truth when he
says "that's Hollywood".

The whole line on Persians
is very consistent. Also there
are powerful groups in US
who finance DNA "research"
in the middle east trying to
prove that Persians are
racially linked to semitic
arabs and africans and
delinking Persians from
their European heritage.
It is argued that much of
North Africa's and Arabia's
population is Black or
mulatto due to importation
of Black slaves by Islamic
traders across the Sahara
desert, where they mixed
with the native Arabs
