What movie was John Travolta filming in New Mexico in the 70's or 80's?!

Question: I vote for "The Devil's Rain" (1975), which marks John Travolta's film debut. I haven't found verification of the film site, but it does look like desert terrain. [Nope! It was filmed in Durango, Mexico.] Offhand, I can't think of any other film of that time period that would fit unless it's some TV film, which I doubt. "The Devil's Rain" was THE film to see about then, as I recall. Wikipedia refer to its failure, so it must not have attracted the same size crowds that it did in the Midwest.

It's not that bad a film actually. It has rather ghastly-looking effects~meaning they made us cry out in disgust and cover our eyes. By today's standards, they're quite mild, but back then, they were quite "yucky". Somehow, it was cool to see Ernest Borgnine, Ida Lupino, and William Shatner in a film like that. Borgnine actually looked as if he was having a wonderful time as the devilish leader. I was just looking at the cast and thinking that it truly is surprising that that alone didn't get people into the theater! They also had Eddie Albert and Keenan Wynn! Tom Skerritt would have to wait till "Alien" to gather more attention.

I'd forgotten that Anton LaVey plays the High Priest! He was the founder of the Church of Satan, so it's surprising that they didn't play that part up.

NOTE: IMDB says that the movie was filmed in Durango, Mexico. Check out the list of movies made there! Wow! Will you settle for Mexico instead of New Mexico? He filmed "Urban Cowboy" in Texas. Other than that, I haven't found any film site there.

he had one in the late 80s called Broken Arrow, and it had alot of desert scenes in it

It very well may be "The Devil's Rain" (1975). This was Mr. Travolta's very first film roll filmed in a rural area filled with all sorts of scrub brush, ghost towns and a back drop that could very easily be New Mexico. I hope this helps out. By the way 'Broken Arrow" was filmed in 1996 just for general information.
