Do you have a favorite director?!

Question: I've noticed that the movies I like always have the same directors - in no particular order, Neil Jordan, Martin Scorsece, Brian De Palma, Stanley Kubrick. All have done at least 3 movies I really like. Do you have a favorite director/directors and what movie/movies do you like the most?

Well you have like really famous directors like Kubrick, Spielberg, Tarantino, Scorsesse, Hitchcock, Burton, Scott and Coppola. Then there are the new and more modern realists such as Loach, Greengrass, Richie and even Boyle. To compare them is really difficult as they have all bought something unique to cinema and each of their work as a certain auteurship sense to it. A mark/trait that they all leave where as you watch a film, you can tell that they made it.

As for my favourite director as in terms of one that has created an auteurship for themselves would have to be Tarantino - Only because of his general uses of the "trunk" shot in the car, women with bare feet, use of recurring roles - E.g. Uma Thurman, Harvey Kietel. Use of the long sequence shots where a continous shot will play for up to 2 - 3 mins.

However, my favourite director on pure enjoyment of a film would have to be Francis Ford Coppola as I enjoyed the Godfathers and Apocalpyse Now soo much!

As for Martin Scorsesse I love his influence on film making and his work with De Niro. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Cape Feare, Casino and even Gangs of New York (without De Niro) all have a really special quality and enjoyment of them. His work is very much based on New Yorks development and the italian influence on that. A very interesting Director and Auteur.

martin scorsese (best director ever).....his best movies include goodfellas, the aviator, and the departed

The Coen Brothers...Blood Simple,Raising Arizona,Barton Fink,Fargo,The Big Lebowski,Miller's Crossing,The Man Who Wasn't There, O Brother,Where Art Thou?,The Hudsucker Proxy...

My all time favorite is Alfred Hitchcock. He was such an innovator in the film industry - a lot of directors working today were influenced by his work, especially Brian DePalma.

Some of my favorites of his are:

'Frenzy'
'Psycho'
'North By Northwest'
'Vertigo'
'To Catch A Thief'
'Rear Window'
'Strangers On A Train'
'Notorious'
'Shadow Of A Doubt'
'The 39 Steps'
'The Lady Vanishes'

David Fincher- Zodiac, Se7en, Fight Club
Alfred Hitchcokck- Psycho, Frenzy, Notorious, Rebecca
Alfonso Cuaron- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Y Tu Mama tambien, Children of Men

You have already mentioned most of my favorites directors, so ill say David Cronenberg, his films are wierd and clever, i particulary like the fly, dead ringers, dead zone, videodrome, i havent seen his last one, eastern promises..
