if you want to cry, watch Beaches or Steal Magnolias. They're older but WOO those tears won't stop.

Check P2, there's a little gore but not that a 13 year old can handle. For detective movies there's Ripley Underground and for English humor, I laughed my heart out watching Hot Fuzz
