Question: My vote goes for Open Range. That was a great movie.
By contemporary I mean made in the past 20 years. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is too old for this survey unfortunately.

Dances with Wolves
Shame to exclude older westerns. With such great movies as High Noon, The Searchers and The Ox-Bow Incident. But if you insist, I would have to say Tombstone.

Tombstone, I did really like The Quick and the Dead as well(the cast alone was an amazing ansambel).
