Was this real or fiction added to the movie?!

Question: In the movie "The Last King of Scotland", when Forrest Whitaker explains why he is obsessed with Scottish culture he says he fought with the Scottish in the war against the Mau Mau(sp?). Was that fictionally added to the movie, did Amin really fight with the Scottish in a war, or did Amin in real life just make that up in his crazy mind?

He was a member of the British army, which is where he may have met and been influenced by Scottish troops.

Although, much of the movie is based on a book (of the same name) where a British journalist becomes his advisor, the movie was changed so he would be a Scottish doctor.

Alot of the Scottish influence comes from the fact that the director is from there.

Also the events surrounding his wife's affair are changed. In the movie the Scottish doctor has the affair with her, she gets pregnant, goes to get an abortion, Amin finds out and has her killed, doctor finds her and decided to kill amin...

Sources say it happened differently: "Kay died on August 13, 1974, reportedly from an attempted surgical abortion performed by her lover Dr. Mbalu Mukasa (who himself committed suicide). Her body was found dismembered. "

Also, he was very irrational and erratic in the years before he was forced into exile, so that could account for different versions of things.

you can read for yourself and decide, he was a corrupt man and lied about alot of things so he might have made it up or that part in the movie was made up. I'm leaning towards the latter, because the movie was centered around him and his "obsession" with all things Scottish.

Well, he did fight as part of a KAR brigade against the Mau Mau. I don't know if his commander or other officers were Scottish. Most KAR members were native Africans.

I think he had some connection with a Scottish regiment, so he probably did fight with them against the Mau Mau's, but you have to remember that Scottish regiments are part of the British army.
