Have you read the epic Norse poem Beowulf ... and watched the travesty of a movi!

Question: If so, what did you think of it? Obviously, I hated it. If I'd never read or studies the poem (which is *wonderful*) I may have enjoyed the movie but, since I have, I am sickened by the bastardization of the poem and saddened to think that people who've never read the poem could think that this really is the story of Beowulf. I hate it that the writers made the great King of the Danes a poor drunk, the Queen a weakling, and Beowulf a braggart and wicked. I hate that Grendel's father isn't Satan (as he is in the poem) and I hate the thought of Beowulf making a deal with the Hag and fathering the Dragon.

Even the live action movie with Christopher Lamb (I think) wasn't this horriffic.

Anyway, what do you think? And please, if you have never read the poem, don't answer this question; I only want to know what people think in comparison between the two.

Having neither read the poem nor seen the film I feel I have a unique viewpoint on this question and also I have a deeply held conviction that total blithering ignorance of a given subject should never be a bar to having strong, nay, fanatical opinions about it. The poem probably needs more stuff about ickle bears and the film could benefit from a few shots of kittens looking out of a dustbin.

Watch the movie in 3-D

Hollywood only cares what will make money, so as an "adaptation", they are free to go as far afield as they choose.

many will not see the movie, as they felt the poem was tedious and without merit
