It does not promote satanism. The writer is agnostic not atheist he said he might believe in some higher power but not a religion that promotes hate toward anyone not like them.
I think that if someone is afraid that their faith would be affected by a movie, then their faith probably isn't that strong in the first place.

But, in the movie, its about two children, which symbolize Adam and Eve, on the quest to kill God, so they can do whatever they want.

I've never read it so I'm not sure if its something within the plot the makes it controversal or just the fact that the author's an atheist. If the controversy it coming from the fact that the author's an atheist, that's everybodys over reacting. If its something about the story that insults religion THAN I'll understand.
