Trying to think of the name of a movie....?!

Question: There was some police movie that was released, I want to say within the last 5 years and the name was one syllable... I believe it was the name of the main character and I think the show used to be a TV series long ago (or maybe a remake of an old movie)...

The name was something like Flash.. or Sham... Or... argh, it's not coming to me. It wasn't a great movie or anything I'm just going nuts trying to think of it. Can anyone help?

John Shaft wasn't a TV series character. He was the lead character in a trilogy of films in the Seventies, portrayed by Richard Roundtree. If I recall correctly, the films in the trilogy are: "Shaft", "Shaft's Big Score" and "Shaft Goes to Africa".

The concept was updated for a film titled "Shaft" (2000), which also was the title of the original blockbuster film. This time, Samuel L. Jackson was in the role, but Richard Roundtree shares the name, playing Uncle John Shaft! I thought that was a neat thing to do.

So, "Shaft" is a remake of a previous film but with a very different storyline. It's not a reworked TV show.

Are you sure it wasn't two syllables...
