Planet of the Apes?!

Question: We have all seen the Planet of the Apes (1968) and the new one that just came out a few years ago. Can this really be possible? I know it is a movie but can it be possible that a futuristic simian society will run the world? Where did this crazy idea come from?

um - Pierre Boulle

First published more than thirty-five years ago, Pierre Boulle’s chilling novel launched one of the greatest science fiction sagas in motion picture history, from the classic 1968 movie starring Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowell, through four sequels and two television series . . . and now the newest film adaptation directed by Tim Burton.

In the not-too-distant future, three astronauts land on what appears to be a planet just like Earth, with lush forests, a temperate climate, and breathable air. But while it appears to be a paradise, nothing is what it seems.

They soon discover the terrifying truth: On this world humans are savage beasts, and apes rule as their civilized masters. In an ironic novel of nonstop action and breathless intrigue, one man struggles to unlock the secret of a terrifying civilization, all the while wondering: Will he become the savior of the human race, or the final witness to its damnation? In a shocking climax that rivals that of the original movie, Boulle delivers the answer in a masterpiece of adventure, satire, and suspense. (Random House Inc.)

I have no idea becuase i havent even seen the remake i no i will hate the remake coz the original is so fantastic, i love it :D

Anything is possible, however, it is fiction.

I have no idea what was in the writers head when he wrote it.

Being a writer myself, I can say that inspiration can com from
almost anything, anyone or any situation.

No, just think, if they were to evolve more, then hopefully we would have evolved too. :-) I hope that we would always have the upper hand, unless we somehow kill ourselves off.
I would hope that they evolve some though. They already understand a lot, like sign language and stuff. Cool huh?

A lot of stories take a current situation and look at the consequences if a previous fork in the road (in this case, an evolutionary fork) had been taken, or if the balance had been tipped in a different direction. Hence, robots or machines that become mainstream-advanced then get the advantage and try to supplant their human "masters" (iRobot), similarly with animals of various species (Jurassic Park).

Possible? Why not? Given enough time - they have intelligence, social structure, communication, they are rebelling (see the current monkey rebellion stories in India). Who would have thought that mammals would replace giant reptiles a few million years ago?

The short novel "Planet of the Apes" by Pierre Boulle that the movies are based on is even spookier than its movies and worth a read.

For a good read about reptiles ruling, catch the "West of Eden" trilogy by Harry Harrison. These will keep you awake at night!
