I saw it when it first came out and I have it on DVD now. It moved me then...and it still moves me. It allowed me to relate to Jesus on a more human level, and made the whole saga more believable. He was just a man who was just as frightened and unsure of his responsibilities to mankind as any of us would be, if we were put in that position. His tremendous level of faith in a God that even HE had never seen (Gethsemane) was very inspiring.

I saw very time ago and I waited more from this movie. I was a little bit disapointed.
When I first saw it in 1974 my Catholic Priest was not happy with it. I too feel it is a bit of an insult to Catholicism just like the EXORCIST.
It is well made, but I also thought it was sacrilegious.
Fantastic film. Judas was exceptional and the whole cast had awsome voices which fit quite nicely.
A must see.
its a GREAT! One day I was channel surfing and found it (2:35am) and watch it. I can't wait to see it on Broadway or a theater. I miss this fall at Wolf Trap (didn't know it was in town) I like the songs in this opera

Saw it at the theater when it came out and on tv maybe a year ago. One the priests at church thinks it sacriligious; the younger one thinks it's a pretty good representation of the Christ story. I tend to think that it's a good movie, great music, and anything that gets people discussing religion is a pretty good thing.
