Lenny accidentally kills his own wife by continuing to give her injections (because she needs to make sure that he isn't faking his memory loss). Teddy knows this but uses Lenny to find the drug dealer. Watch the film again to make it clearer. Also if you have it on DVD there is an Easter egg that can play it in chronological order for you.
Watch it again and you'll see that Teddy explains that sammy didn't have a wife, the memory of injections is actually Lenny and his own wife that Lenny has mixed up with the Sammy story. Report It

    I loved that film, but I think I lost the plot half-way through :) It's one of those films you have to watch a few times before you understand it.
    NO TEDDY WAS A BAD COP TRYING TO get lenny to kill drug dealersif you notice the picture showed he had killed another guy..teddy was trying to explain this to him when lenny shot him
    For those who haven't seen it, Memento is one of my favourite films as it unusual and very clever. The plot revolves around Leonard (Guy Pearce) who is seeking to find and execute the man who killed his wife, but he has no short-term memory due to a brain injury. The brilliance of the film is that, in order to put the viewer in Leonard's position of not knowing what happened 5 minutes ago, the scenes run backwards in time with each subsequent scene explaining what went on previously. So, in effect, the film starts at the end and finish at the beginning, thereby revealing the plot twist. The film is indespersed with some grainy black and white scenes which are background information and are not part of Leonard's memory
