In the movie fletch why does he only smoke a cigarette in one scene?!

Question: It's the scene where he breaks into a house to find clues and the dude pulls a shotgun on him. I'm pretty sure this is the only scene where he's smoking and it never says why. Anyone else notice this or know why the hell they would do that or am I just wrong?

It is called "continuity". A script girl is supposed to notice little flaws like that, but obviously didn't.

It is like seeing a glimpse of the camera (or it's Shadow) over the actor's head accidentally, or a TV antenna on the roof of an old (pre-TV) historic "costumed drama" show, set centuries ago.

That's why your computer has a delete button. There are no perfect men on earth...only perfect intentions.

The smoking ban???

who cares? maybe he just didnt wanna...... smokins bad

its just a movie.
the director must have screwed it up.

because his friend told him to start smoking then the director didnt like it and the next day they tried to change it and couldnt
the actor that was in the scene mysteriously disapeared on aruba and is now gone forever

i know i am so good at making up stories

In the old days before anyone faced the firing squad they would be given a cigarette. (Remember the blindfold and then the cigarette.) The cartoons do that sometimes as well. So maybe that's the reason just before he is about to get shot he lights up a cigarette.
