Everything that happened in the house where all of the people were being held hostage, happened before Detective Matthews visited Jigsaw's lair.
His son lived, he was in a safe the whole entire time with an oxygen mask on his face, helping him breath.

he did survive they found him inside the safe with an oxygen tank so he was safe with the police.

by the time we see him with the oxygen mask on, he is no longer in danger. that is why john Kramer told detective Matthews that if he just talked to him, he would soon find his son well and unharmed.
