Why is the film "The Golden Compass" anti-religious?!

Question: I read all the books, and nothing seems to explain the big to-do about the movie being anti-religious...does anyone have an idea about why? Or do you think so and why?

i dont think that the book or the movie is anti-religious I believe that these people are making a mountain out of a mole-hill. They are looking to deep into the movie and trying to make it somethng its not, which the only thing it is is for entertainment purposes.

My sister (who read the book) said that the author of "The Golden Compass" did not believe in God, so some people don't want to see that movie because of that. I'm not sure if this is a rumor or not, though... Hope this helped. =)

Because some Nert Nert claimed it was.
You see, in this day and age you don't actually have to
back up your claims with any sort of proof to get the masses to believe it.

A big part of the books is about the Church trying to control the world. The actual institution, made by humans, not deities. I wouldn't say the books are anti-religious per say, but they do ruffle some feathers by the end.

Now the first film, I thought, used the whole religion theme way too much. The first novel hardly mentions it at all, you only get an inkling of what is to come. I also thought it was lame how the filmmakers tried to call the Church the "Magisterium" the entire time, as to fool people into thinking they weren't the Church somehow.

Hope this all helps :)

I'm going to see it tomorrow.

"The Catholic League's beef is that the author of the fantasy books is "a noted English atheist." The League warns that the movie is "bait" to lure unsuspecting children into . . . (gasp) reading the books for themselves!"

The Mormon Church is also calling for a boycott. Wonder what they're so afraid of.

The were boycotts of the Harry Potter books and films, the Church was afraid that it was glamorizing witchcraft.

Who Cares!, It's just a movie.
