What's the difference between boycotting a movie and just not seeing it?!

Question: There are a lot of movies I don't go to see. I don't say that I'm boycotting romance movies just because I don't go to see them. If I had children, I wouldn't say my family is boycotting a horror film just because I don't feel that children should watch it. You either go see it or you don't.

The word boycott implies making a conscious decision not to see the movie, for a specific reason. It is all about intent.

Some years ago, there was a benefit concert being held in my area to raise funds for a cause, that a lot of people were firmly against. I was against it too, but I felt that stating I was "boycotting" the concert was pretty empty, because I wouldn't have been going to that kind of event anyway, and neither would the people against it. So I found another way of passive protest.

boycott and not seeing it is just the same.you dont have any interests watching them.

boycott - a means of protest.

it's kind of similar not seeing the movie as it is to boycott. but i think boycotting has more to do with protesting.

boycotting .. is not buying ANYTHING related to a company or a person.. personally for me , I don't buy anything timbaland (the producer) has made or any work he has made or work he's produced for others.. partly because of this >

not going to see something , is just that outta lazyness or it's not your thing..

but boycotting is basically disguist from a persons in actions, or lack of moral etc by certain people or companies etc.

Nothing other than intention.

Boycotting means that you have a reason not to do something. Such as these ignorant people boycotting The Golden Compass. If they read the books, and still had a problem, then boycotting would be legitimate, however, they are believing false acquisitions of other supposed Christians (I say supposed because real Christians are not suppose to judge...reading the books and knowing the facts are different than presuming), that haven't even read the books. Take the Boston Tea Party. The people were boycotting taxation without representation. They had a valid reason to boycott and to throw all the tea into the harbor. So if you don't want to see a movie because it doesn't interest you or you don't have time, or you generally don't like chick flicks or if your future children would be scared of a movie, then that is not boycotting. I hope this helped...
