Which Movies were the Most Difficult to Make?!

Question: I mean ones that took so long or ones that were harder to film. It could also be like some that were having technical difficulties it was amazing that it was actually finished. Also, tell me why you think so. Name as many as you can think of. They can be high or low budget films. And also, in your opinion, do you think the movie turned out great or dissapointing. Most detailed, most movies named, more specific on the movie (time it was released, when shooting started, cast, awards it won or lost, etc.), when and why you say it, or a combination of all of these listed above shall recieve the best answer.

Thanks for reading and answering!!

Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 film "Apocalypse Now" has been cited a one of the most difficult and trouble made films in film history.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078788/
Here's why:
1) Coppola tried to get the film made for years but couldnt unitl after his huge success with "The Godfather" Parts I and II due to budget and studio issues.
2) The main character, Cpt. Willard, had several stars (Steve McQueen, Harvey Keitel, Gene Hackman) attached but all backed out before Martin Sheen finally got the role. Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino turned the role down.
3) Marlon Brando, notoriously difficult to work with, showed up to shoot the film overweight, without memorizing his lines, and completely unfamiliar with the book the film is loosely based upon. Marlon Brando was paid $1 million in advance. He threatened to quit and keep the advance. He read Coppola's script, and refused to do it. After days of arguments over single lines of dialogue, an ad-lib style script was agreed upon, and this was shot according to Brando's stipulations that he appears in shadows.
4) Sheen was drunk several times on the set and while so he punched out a mirror cutting his hand badly and got into a fight with Coppola.
5) Originally scheduled to be shot over six weeks, ended up taking 16 months
6) Brando wanted his scenes to be shot by the assisstant director, not by Coppola.
7) Martin Sheen had a heart attack during the filming and some shots of Willard's back are of doubles, including Sheen's brother who was flown out specially. Coppola was so worried that backing would be withdrawn by the studio and distributor if news of Sheen's heart attack leaked out, that he kept it quiet, even to the extent of explaining Sheen's hospitalization as being due to "heat exhaustion" in the official Shoot Schedule.
8) It took Francis Ford Coppola nearly three years to edit the footage from Apocalypse Now.
9) Coppola discovered that Sheen was busy and unable to perform these voice-overs. He then called in Sheen's brother Joe Estevez, whose voice sounds nearly identical to Sheen's, to perform the new narrative tracks.
10) Phillipenes President Ferdinand Marcos agreed to supply the helicopters and pilots. Marcos' government also needed them for fighting the rebels, and sometimes withdrew them during filming, sending different pilots not familiar with the filming.
11) The sound mix took over nine months to complete.
12) Most of the dialogue was added in post-production, as extraneous noise (such as helicopters) left many scenes with unusable audio.
13) Coppola invested several million dollars of his personal wealth after the film went severely over budget.
14) Coppola threatened suicide several times during the making of the film.
15) Military sets for the movie were nearly destroyed by a hurricane during filming. Instead of breaking them down and starting over, the partially-destroyed sets were used to create new scenes in the movie

The film eventually went on to be heralded as one of the greatest military films and overeall films of all-time. It won 2 Oscars and was nominated for six more, including Best Picture. It also won the Palme D'or at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie was truly amazing in nearly every aspect, one of my favorites.

Eleanor Coppola (his wife) filmed and recorded the making of this film, leading to "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" (1991). This documentary portrays the trouble with making the film and is also an amzing documentary.

If you had done more than one, I would be overwhelmed. But, if you know more, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEAS TELL Report It
