Children dying in movies?!

Question: did you ever notice that in movies, they never show children under the age of roughly 16 being killed?

a few examples:

sleepy hollow: headless horsemen kills the baby, it isnt shown.
my girl: stung to death by bees, doesnt really show it

etc.

im not saying i want to see it, but is there some kind of law stating that you have to be 18 to die on-screen in a movie?

I've never heard of any laws stating that but I'm sure there is a general public appeal that movies won't be watched if 5-year-olds are dying on-screen. There are movies however, with major mob scenes and war movies with bloody battles where children are shown bloodied and strewn across their mother's breasts. It's almost a sad American reality that people are willing to see gangsters shot up in prison or wives beaten senseless but we say it's immoral and wrong to watch a child die. Sometimes people can be so insensitive. And you must also appeal to the type of audiences watching your movies....

It does happen. Maybe you should just watch more movies outside you comfort zone.

I think it's the ethical thing for a hollywood production to do. Afterall they are making movies that can ptentially target the largest group of people in the country possible. Children in distress, dying etc, is a traumatic thing to even think about much less see it taking place in front of you. Esspecially if you are a parent. Yeah we know it's all a movie, fake, but still ethically, no one wants an image of a child being hurt or killed in their heads. Unless you are one seriously screwed up dude, if so, you need therapy.

Indenpendent films are probably more likely to show somethingl ike this since they are gennerally targeted to a particular audience, and don't have to follow the Hollywood formulae. Did you ever watch "Trainspotting?" there's a dead baby in that movie. It's a pretty disturbing scene, even for me who has been to a real warzone and have seen dead bodies before....

Pay it forward
Lord of the flies
are just 2 off the top of my head were kids are killed on screen
As the above said, it's not illegal, but its not highly looked upon either, and there isn't a big audience for child murders. Generally, you won't see it, because it just makes people squeamish and uncomfortable.

You should watch more movies.

But it isn't a drawing card for most viewers.
