I understand what you mean. He's not a top-toch actor. He mostly supports Adam Sandler in comedy movies. He's in a lot with him.
You haven't been paying attention. Many groups of actors appear in films together. Face it: Not every actor gets a lead role, and the ones who do break through to lead roles sometimes keep up their connections or the movies have casting directors who give the same ones calls because they're familiar faces.
In the old studio system, you knew a Warner Bros. or MGM film by the actors. Today, groups of actors and actresses often crop up together and not just for sequels.
Check out the recurring names in Clint Eastwood or Sylvester Stallone movies. Action films aren't the only ones. If you see Steve Buscemi, frequently you also will spot some of the same names, whether Buscemi is a top name or down there in the credits with the rest of them.
Start reading movie credits, and you will see patterns, such as Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Matthew Lillard. What about Kevin O'Connell in a number of Stephen Sommers' films? Alfred Hitchcock liked using Leo G. Carroll in his films.
So, there are many reasons for actors to appear together in a number of films. It makes the "Seven Degrees" game lots of fun, when you can remember who appears in what film with which actors.
EXAMPLE: Clint Eastwood & Albert Popwell: Sudden Impact, The Enforcer, Magnum Force, Dirty Harry (I think he's the guy Harry delivers the speech to), and Coogan's Bluff. Popwell also acted in a number of other films. That's what character actors do. They rarely get the lead or even secondary lead, but they can show up in more than one film with the same actor, whether that actor is in the lead or not.
Remember, Adam Sandler hasn't been top-billed for that long a time after playing bits in a number of films. You never know when an actor is going to break through to that lead role. If Sandler and WIll Ferrell can do it, ANYONE can!
