What breed of dog is "Hooch" from the film Turner and Hooch?!

Question: He is what is commonly referred to in America as a "French Mastiff". Elsewhere he would be called a "Dogue de Bordeaux", or more simply a "Bordeaux", or a "French Bull Masstiff". They are actually quite a placid animal once you get to know them.

I think a mastiff. They are`cute but slobber to no end. lol

It isn't a breed of dog as far as I know. It has to be just a name for the dog. Ever heard the word "pooch"?

Wotan

I believe it was a French Mastiff, a very large breed of dog that drools a lot.

If you watch tv with the old shows the dogs puppies have showed up on Golden Girls, and on Empty Nest. It's a French Bull Mastiff aren't they beautiful and very well behaved and easy to train because they are extremely smart. But you better have a large pocket of money to purchase one because they don't come cheap and if you choose to breed them that's another expense that you have to swallow. Because average people can't afford them. The last time I looked into purchasing one they were 25,000.00. Makes you sick doesn't it.

I always thought that HOOCH was a Bull Mastiff.
