What is the movie Sweeney Todd, About?!

Question: It looks good, and I will see it, but what is it about? Is there a story behind it or just another dark movie that is out there?

Yes there's actually a really good story lol.

Benjamin Barker was a barber in london. He had a beautiful wife and a new-born daughter. A judge named Judge Turpin wanted to be with Barker's wife, so he sent Barker to jail in Australlia for life for something he didn't do. But Benjamin escapes 15 years later. He's gone slightly crazy and instead of coming back as Benjamin Barker, he comes back as Sweeney Todd. He wants his revenge on Judge Turpin (who raped his wife) and has been told by Mrs Lovett that his wife took poison to kill herself. Now Judge Turpin has Sweeney's daughter, Joanna, and is going to try to marry her. Sweeney takes revenge on those who sent him away to prison, and tries to get his daughter back. He sets up a shop above Mrs Lovetts pie shop, and that is where his revenge takes place.

He doesn't just go slitting throats fo no reason like some people seem to think, there really is a solid foundation as to why he's doing it. The story line is absolutly amazing and probably havn't done it justice. There's a lot more if you go to wikipedia and go to Sweeney Todd Musical.

Its about a demon barber who kills kills and kills hes customers.
And its going to be absolutely awesome! ...Especially because Johnny Depp is playing Sweeney!!

Merry Christmas xx

Sweeney Todd a.k.a Benjamin Barker returns to London after being sent away by Judge Turpin with the help of a sailor, Anthony Hope. He opens a barber shop above Mrs. Lovett's Meat Pie Shop were she sells "the worst pies in London." With the help of Mrs. Lovett, Todd tries to rid of all the people who have ever done him wrong and hopes to be reunited with his daughter, Joanna, who is now Judge Turpin's ward.

BUT I saw the Seattle premiere of this and was horribly disappointed. I am not a fan of musicals, but I am also a huge Tim Burton fan. The balance fell well on the side of the negative. I had never seen any production of Sweeney Todd before, so I didn't share the complaints of those who are fans of the play and/or genre. Apparently no one in this production could sing. All that I know is that it was incomprehensible much of the time. Johnny Depp was well... Johnny Depp. Although it was far from his best performance, his "Deppness" was palpable A word to Tim: Only make movies where Danny Elfman is your musical partner, because that is true magic.

What yu3se6 said......I'm a huge fan of the opera, and the songs are really beautiful....but I know how Hollywood treats good plays, so I'm going to go see it, but I do have my trepidations about it.

Johnny Depp has a wife and child... he's put in jail for a crime he didn't commit... his wife goes insane and then goes missing... his daughter is taken in as a ward of the judge who put Johnny Depp in jail... when he gets out of jail he realizes that his family is gone and he decides to take his revenge upon the people that put him in jail (mainly the judge)... in addition to the judge's many crimes against Depp, it turns out that the judge has decided to marry Depp's daughter (the daughter that the judge had as his ward for 15 years)... so needless to say this hurts Depp's character (sweeny todd/benjamin barker) even more... after getting out of jail his plan for taking out his revenge involves being a barber and murdering those who wronged him and having his neighbor (played by helena bonham carter) who happens to be a baker, bake the bodies into pies... i won't tell you the whole story... although you could look it up on wikipedia.org... but that's the gist of it... and it's stuff you probably saw mentioned in the trailers as well... have fun!
