For those of you who have seen the movie "Fight Club" what did you thi!

Question: I finally watched it the other night, it was highly recommended by a friend who said it was spiritual. I watched it because the guide said it was an attack on capitalism. When I actually watched the whole thing I found it to be very bizarre and twisted, I think I have to watch it again. Anyway, I had a good laugh as I consider them attacking capitalism as they are making a movie to make money, I found it ironic. Any thoughts on this subject appreciated!

The film is not exactly a direct attack on capitalism per se. Rather, it is mostly a scathing critique of society's preoccupation with consumerism (capitalism run amok) and of the contentment of the status quo.

It also focuses on the individual's struggle with defining his/her true self, as is demonstrated by Tyler Durden, the alter-ego of the nameless narrator. It's not surprising the narrator's name is never mentioned given that in a consumerist culture, we are seen as nothing more than just mere statistics in the eyes of Corporate America.

Yes, this is one of my all-time favourites. I'm seriously hoping that another of Chuck Palahniuk's novels gets adapted into a feature film (preferably Invisible Monsters or Survivor.)

I seen the movie and it was weird but it was actually a good movie.

I thought it was an inivative approach to aggression release. At least they were willing to figt and not taking it out on public streets. Have at it.

you can call me Mr Durden

This is my favorite movie. You have to watch it multiple times to appreciate it. It is bizzare and twisted - most people hate it. But if you can read between the lines, it is very interesting!

its the weirdest movie ever!!

it has all the ingredients for a great film at the beginning....brad pit, ed norton, the fittie and the nerdy taking on the The Man.....but what a load of old nonsense it turns into, i have nothing against big psycological twists but.....very disappointing, could have been brilliant x

That's an interesting take on it, but I don't really see the logic in why a supposed anti-capitalist movie would go through Hollywood. I guess it's kind of like Ad-Busters magazine being anti-consumerist and capitilist...then selling their over priced mag. to corporate book stores.

First of all it is a guy movie.
Second, watch it two or more times.
Yes, it is a story or irony.....earning a living, how we live, lies the government tells us, capitalism, mental illness, it covers it all in small ways.....whereas Forest Gump talks about the good things in life, Fight Club discovers the dark side.
GREAT MOVIE.

I think the weirest movie ever was Jacobs ladder with the man from the shawshank Redemption.
Fightclub was strange to me the first time I watched it. The second time I found it likable. Brad Pitt doesn't do much for an interesting concept. Ed Norton however is quite amazingly powerful

It is one that i love. Very UNDERated.

To b honest with u it was a piece of sh**.

I was really young when I saw this movie probably when I was 15 or 16. I saw it once and the only reason I watched it was because of Brad Pitt. But all I can remember was that it was something like having another "personality" and getting in touch with it ( as I understood it during that time). I would love to watch it again though, just to see if I still have the same understanding of the movie.

it was a book made into a movie and in the book they attacked capitalism so is not that ironic .... the book is alittle different than the movie but both are great..... even in the book Edward Norton never gives his name ...check out the book it written by CHuck Pahcclualkk or something like that

First Rule: You don't talk about Fight Club!!

I thought it was paradoxically inciteful and insightful, namely as a means of demonstrating how easily it is to become convinced that the ends justify the means, and the self-imposed torture one must unawaredly endure to establish and maintain such illusions. I believe the physical fighting was symbolically used to replace the psychological or emotional war the occurs in the mind of someone motivated to act immorally for a cause they believe will bring greater benefit.
The film itself achieves this on a smaller scale than it's content, by sending the message that our capitalist economy is not as powerful as it appears, but in doing so details the process needed to build explosives out of easily accessible uncontrolled materials.
