Identifying a WWII movie...?!

Question: Does anyone know the name of this film?

The premise had something to do with an older sergeant (I assume that's his rank) and a green, young private who became separated from their unit, both of them American. There was snow on the ground, and the region they were in was forested.

In one scene, one character is about to take a shot at the driver of the lead truck of an Axis convoy, but he misses. I seem to recall barrels falling out of the flatbed as the truck crossed a bridge.

And in another, the two main characters plus dozens of other American GI's have been captured and sat down in a field. A German truck backs up, and inside the bed is a machine gun which they use to execute the soldiers. The Sarge and private had began to sneak away as soon as they saw the truck, but the Sergeant was hit.

The movie was in color, maybe done in the early 70's?
But don't let that limit you; I can't pin down a decade...

Any help would be appreciated.

I am 99.9% sure it was "Battle of the Bulge" (1965).
Check out the references.

Hmmm...not sure, if you have a name for one of the stars that would help some. You could head over to IMDB for a look, and maybe something will trigger a memory, you can browse films by date, genre etc. http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Genres/War/...
