Hi is it true in 2008-2009 Warner Brothers are going to stop supporting Blu-ray?!

Question: I read it on the web at HD-DVDorg.com. Is it true?

It's all speculations at this point...

Since Warner Bros is the only film studio not to adapt one of the new Hi Def formats (i.e. it releases movies in both HD DVD and Blu-Ray).

If Warner adapts Blu-Ray then 70% of the market will be Blu-Ray-ed which will probably pursue other studios to drop HD DVD, On the other hand if Warner adapts HD DVD then the market will be split in half.

The thing is, Sony (Blu-Ray campaign) and Toshiba (HD DVD campaign) are trying really hard to persuade Warner to their side, being a major film studio and the one whom didn't take any side 'till now.

Sony has already sold almost two times Blu-ray discs than Toshiba sold HD DVD even though Blu-ray players and disc are more expensive. Actually the biggest blow Sony gave Toshiba is by releasing PlayStation 3 with built-in Blu-ray player.

Now, if Warner goes with Blu-Ray that would be a K.O. to HD DVD and will end up leaving the market or holding a small share of it.

I guess we will wait and see...
The intuitive guess is that Warner will go with Blu-Ray (if it took sides) and avoid consumer confusion resulting from a market split between HD DVD and Blu-Ray and that can be derived from the fact that Warner has pushed a long time for a single format.

Please read the article from Business Week (in the source at the bottom).

I doubt it. The high def market is too limited for Warner just to rely on HD DVD. The total of both HD DVD and Blu Ray is only 1% of all the home video market and I think Warner would want to hang on to both format to get a bigger market.

Besides, there is no single format that dominate the other (well, except for standard DVD, that is) and people believe that both format will co-exist in the future, especially after Sony admitting stalemate recently.
