The Road to Perdition - what did you think of it?!

Question: I only saw it last night and thought it was nearly excellent. Grea performance by Paul Newman. Tom Hanks is such a natural actor, the Roger Federer of his profession! I thought they could have ratcheted up the tension in the final scene and a few other places too. Superb cinematography throughout.

You could have not say it better! You forgot Jude Law!
There was also a good moral to the story and that was the fact that everyone is responsible for their own decisions. I was glad for the kid's decision to do the right thing.

yea i thought it was a great film, tom hanks cant really do much wrong nowadays. thought jude law was pretty good in it to

I like all the actors involved to the max, and I really like Max Allan Collins, who wrote the story, and I even liked the illustrated novel, which I read after I saw the flick.

But, all through the movie, I kept wondering, "Where the hell is this story SET?" I kept looking for clues as to where these characters were! Not Chicago: Mike (and son) had to go to Chicago to get Frank Niti's permission to kill the old man. Not Milwaukee: Mike had to drive all day and night to get to Chicago. Not Cleveland, same reason. Not Pittsburg, it would take more than one day and night...so where?

It really bothered me until I finally read the illustrated novel...it's set in a fictional "Tri-Cities" on the Mississippi River, which coresponds to the real "Quad Cities" of Bettendorf and Davenport,Iowa, and Moline, and Rock Island, Illinois! It's a shame that the film-makers didn't clear that up early in the story!
