Hard to find a good or GREAT horror movie?!
Question: I just bought the movie "HACHET" a day or 2 ago. On the cover it's halied as "the best horror film in the last 20 years." It's an instant classic. All these glowing reviews. blah, blah, blah. . . It was bareable. Nothing really ground breaking. Cheap gore and nudity.
Why does it seem like there's not a lot of good horror films these days? Movies like EXORCIST, THE THING, THE OMEN, ELM STREET 1 and etc. I mean they're not all horrible. I really liked the DESCENT and JEEPERS CREEPERS 1.
But all in all. . . not much really good ones.

That's all of the suggestions I have for you I suppose. But, I do think that the demand for explicit films has been so much that it's difficult for writers to come up with something more subtle. The public has supported films such as "Saw", "Hostel" and "Wolf Creek", and now more of the same is being sent to theaters. Yet, when non-gory films are provided, people have been complaining about them, so studios don't think it's worthwhile. Support "Darkness Falls" and other low-key horror films, and they might start focusing on making improved films that aren't "horror porn", as they have been judged.
I continue watching and keeping notes about films and filmmakers, including Larry Fessenden, whose works have proven intriguing. Sometimes, I'm very surprised by films I might have easily passed up: "The Hole", "The Roost", and even "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary", which does a bit borrowed from "The Believers (spiders spilling forth from a woman's cheek~yuck!). By the way, I was surprised when revisiting "The Believers" and "The Serpent & the Rainbow" that they had some good moments.
I also enjoy discovering low-budget treats such as "The Flesh Eaters". Maybe it's because I'm older than most on Y!A and know that groundbreaking is going to be exceedingly rare. It's impossible to do that in any field really. You cannot expect each film to be that wonderful, perfect work because it just doesn't work that way, which is why we treasure classics. You have to love movies, even with their shortcomings, not rip everything apart that comes your way. Everybody reuses elements, so no one can be truly original. Some just do something with a different twist~actor/actress, music, lighting, etc. Magic doesn't happen on a regular basis, but today's audiences have become spoiled and demand it. Advertising for films~on TV, in trailers and on box art~has always been filled with hyperbole. Never believe "blurbs". I never have because, when I was a little girl, I quickly realized that films often don't live up to that praise.
sweeney todd is a great horror/bloody movie.If you love blood,horror,guts and gore you'll love it.
i agree with u. the only new horror movies are gay remakes and unoriginal crap. im looking forward 2 watching one missed call, that movie looks good.
Because today film makers are under the impression that Blood and Violence equals scary. We all know thats not true. There is a BIG diffrence between horror and slasher flicks. I'll take Night Of The Living Dead over a whole shelf full of Hostels and Saws.
Because all the originality is gone. If you want a good horror flick check out Suspiria incredible visuals as well
Because most of the Orginal movies top the new ones.
