What's the latest word on what the monster in the upcoming movie Cloverfield!

Question: I have just recently done some more browsing of a few of the numerous 'Cloverfield' sites out there, and have been quite impressed with the number of different theories floating about as to the nature of the threat. I have read that the creature in question is based in Cthulu literature (yay, Lovecraft) ; or that it is an homage to Godzilla, and is a creature that has lain dormant under the seabed for countless years and only now has awoken. Others have speculated that it is some other form of alien life landed on Earth and now bent on the domination of our planet. Heck, I have even read in a few places that it might even be a new Japanese influenced Giant robot movie ( ala Voltron)!

As to the form it has taken, I have read blog posts (somewhat supported by brief, grainy video clips from the latest released trailers) that claim it is almost like a giant sloth / lizard on a scale with the Statue of Liberty, possibly with plated armor coverings. Others have thrown out the idea that maybe there is a plague angle to all this . The suggestion has been made that maybe in some way the creature carries a contagion of some sort that affects the human populace and causes them to mutate in some strange way. Actually, this theory is not as crazy as you might think: in the latest trailer, there is a brief clip that has an outside view of a human figure standing inside a lit tent with a couple of army personnel in hazmat outfits on eitherside of him/her. In the clip, the figure appears to be mutating at an incredibly alarming rate...

If you want to see some more, feel free to check out my blog which has some new trailer footage.

I'm voting for H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu as the greatest threat to be faced by the world! This would be a "homegrown" creature that has never been shown in movies as he should be.

I've heard the rumors about The Parasite, and one forum posted a link to artwork. If I can find it again, I'll set it down here.

This was posted at a Cloverfield site, much debate was going on about its legitimacy. The louse creatures are supposed to latch onto human beings and transform them. Remember the screaming woman behind the curtain?

I still want it to be Cthulhu! I can't picture it being Godzilla, Gamera, Voltron or any of the other creatures suggested.

read my question on it..

i spotted something interesting on a preview for it.

You aren't going to know for sure until you watch the movie - its the whole marketing ploy.
