Has anyone watched the film called 'The Golden Compass' yet?!

Question: Because I want to know whether it is exactly(or near enough) like the book, or whether they have completly changed it.

Answers: Because I want to know whether it is exactly(or near enough) like the book, or whether they have completly changed it.

Yeah, I've seen it. It was a good film in it's own right, but didn't really stick THAT much to the book. I guess the main sotry was there with the whole Bolvangar thing, but they completely cut out the ending. Apparantly, they actually filmed the ending but cut it out of this film, and are putting it on the beginning of the next onw! [if there is a next one] ...

Yes, I enjoyed it till the ending - WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING?!

They have completely changed the ending i.e. cut out the best chapter.

i don't know how the book was but i wasn't that impressed by the film

I haven't read the book, but the people in front of me at my theater said "They changed alot." The people behind me said they hated it because it didn't follow the book.

it was alright

No I haven't watched it yet but I'm going to ...

nope i havent but am planning to watch

Ehhh.... I would say their interpretation of the book is pretty good, but, like most adaptations, it wasn't how I imagined things.

They do miss out a LOT, but the most important events are all there. I was particularly annoyed by their representation of the Gyptian meeting, which is a rather pitiful affair on a little boat in the middle of the sea!

I didn't read the book but the film was pretty good!

I haven't seen it, but I do know they cut out any mention of God, so it must be changed a huge amount because God and his removal is what the book is about
Philip Pullman says he's not too bothered about that as long as seeing the film makes kids want to read the book - so I hope its a good film

Well... I haven't seen it, but I do know that the anti-religious stuff, which is really a major part of the story, has been cut out in order to stop New Line Cinemas from being boycotted by the significant minority of hard line Christians. Another criticism is that the secondary characters' only purpose is to tell Lyra things; they seem to have little involvement in the story.

Nonetheless, if you like the books you'll like the film, as it does keep to the plot, and the CGI effects (especially the daemons and the armoured bears) are spectacular. I haven't got round to seeing it yet because of all the criticisms that I've heard of it, but I will see it sooner or later.

Have to say I wasn't impressed. Loved the demons but the film didn't live up to the expectations.

I have read all three of the triology books and they were great but I am yet at a disadvantage because I really want to see the movie but I haven't had the time because I am working at my hotel

Yes, took my 8 yr old son to watch this, he loved it. It's a more grown up Narnia. Haven't read the book but believe they've changed the ending. The quickest 2 hours i've spent in the cinema in a long time. Go watch it!!!!
