Pretty poor updating of the opera "La Boheme" which tries to shoehorn the ideals of a Bohemian lifestyle into a modern landscape where such an ideal is no longer practical or desirable. For a character who makes films, an artistic medium absolutely reliant on technology, to spurn his friends attempts to build a state of the art studio that can support said art is insane and wholly unbelievable. For a group to believe that squatter's rights is a way to live mischaracterizes the entire artist culture of New York City.
The songs are full of energy, but the story itself fails to allow the audience to suspend disbelief.
Great movie! It's both funny and sad. If you like musicals check it out.
The movie or the play? The movie is ok, but there is something about seeing it live that makes it that much better!
