I can only speak as to what I've seen, so my thoughts as to the gravity of the films on the list:

"Close Encounters of the Third Kind," 1977
Amazing film. Science Fiction meets reality done better than any other. 30 years ago? wow. Time flies.

"Back to the Future," 1985
Part of my childhood. Pop culture masterpiece.

"12 Angry Men," 1957
Fonda at his best. Subject really makes you take heed of your role in the the justice system.

"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," 1962
John Wayne / Jimmy Stewart. The power of the press over Legend. Perhaps not either actor's finest work, but a good film nonetheless.

"Bullitt" (1968)
Steve McQueen is _the_ man, defined all car chases after it.

"Dances With Wolves" (1990)
The epic which started the move toward revisionist history in film. Definitely honors the land and the time period. One of the few decent films of Costner's up and down career.

"Wuthering Heights" (1939)
Lawrence Olivier. A decent film, but not really my cup of tea.

I think that these are all fine films, as well as important films, and have no problems with them on the registry.

Can't speak for the others...hope this helps.

Some of those are great films, others I haven't seen. I love "Dances With Wolves"
