What do people prefer the original hair spray movie or the new version. Personal!
Question: We prefered the original version, the girl playing Tracey was very good but Divine was so much better than John Travolta as the mum. I think he is a very good actor but he seemed to be trying too hard in this role.

Additionally, Travolta is a NIGHTMARE in the remake. Yikes!
The old one the new one sucked.
The original, Divine was great as was Ricky Lake. I didn't hate the new one but wasn't as good.
The old one! It was more "kitchy" and Ricki Lake was the best Tracy Turnblad EVER!
I actually really enjoyed the new one! i thought it was cheesy, yes, but super fun. It kept the underlying ideals and morals, but added a fun extra layer to it that kept you dancing and singing.
I know many people dislike the older version because the man who directed it doesn't like happy endings. Also, the racial issues dealt with in the movie are done with rough, edgy comedy which does not appeal to most tastes. I haven't seen the older version but I've heard both good and bad reviews. I do like the new one. The songs are great, with strong household name actors and actresses. The movie is pretty cheesy, if you think of the conditions but the use of color and props is amazing.
I enjoy the original but i prefer to sit and watch the new one i loved john T as the mum he had me in stitches. the music in the new one was much better.
