Star Wars..?!

Question: I heard that originally there were supposed to be 12 episodes of star wars.. so what happened to the rest??

And I know that everyone thinks the "prequels" were garbage but honestly I enjoyed them because I love star wars and I liked knowing how things came about.. Sooo

..would you like to see the next 3 be made ?? 7-9

Back in the 70s, George Lucas was talking about making **nine** Star Wars movies: the original trilogy (New Hope, Empire, & Jedi); a prequel trilogy about the fall of the Old Republic (Phantom Menace, Clones, & Sith); and a trilogy (set after Return of the Jedi) which would be about the rebuilding of the Republic.

But in the 90s, as books set after Jedi started to be published in the Star Wars universe, Lucas dropped the idea of making a post-Jedi trilogy of movies. As other answerers have said, Lucas felt that after completing Revenge of the Sith, he'd said all he needed to say, and as more and more books were set in the post-Jedi era, they were telling the story quite well without Lucas making any more movies.

Yes, originally there were to be twelve movies in all. Lucas has since said that he has said all that he needed to with the three that he has already made. 7-9 of the series were written as books by Timothy Zahn in the early 90's. They were really good if memory serves me correct. I'll update with Amazon listing for them in a few minutes.

i think george lucas realized that it would be too great an undertaking to make all 12. the books are written but it would take too much time to make them all.

Probably not, George Lucas obviously hasnt released them for a reason, not doubt coz they are poor. Loved the rest though.

i once heard a rumour that there was going to be 18 episodes made. the lies they tell

I dread to think what they would be like, I first 3 were brilliant, then the next 3 were really bad. If it continues in the same vain, the next 3 will be filmed by a chimp, with a poor quality camera phone.

After the first film was retitled as Episode four upon it's re-release (or Empire was titled Episode V, I don't remember which happened first) Lucas was asked in an interview about the numbering system. He kind of off-handedly said that he wants to do a prequel trilogy, and could even do a 7-9. It was actually a fleeting thought that somehow got turned into gospel.

When he actually thought about it, the story arc concerned Anakin Skywalker, and the story ends when he dies. That's the story he wanted to tell and he has. So, he didn't feel the need to do a 7-9.
