What is the plot of The Golden Compass and why are the religious nuts drawing at!

Question: Plot: Basically, this little girl goes on a journey to rescue her friend.

However, in order to answer the next part of your question, we should look at a few facts.

First of all, in the movie and book, people's souls are manifested as an animal that follows them around everywhere they go... these animals are called demons.

The main force of evil within the story, the Magisterium, are strangely dressed like catholic priests. Their goal is to keep people from thinking for themselves... their motive for doing this is to keep people from discovering the truth, being as it were that there are parallel universes connected by a substance they call Dust. The second part of their scheme is to control all of those parallel universes.

I should also point out that Philip Pullman's trilogy is actually titled "His Dark Materials." He openly states that this is supposed to be the "Anti-Narnia" story of our generation.

Now to answer the second part of your question. I think the reason all of the religious nuts are throwing a fit because of some of these key factors. The underlying theme of the movie is that there is a large organization of people (dressed like catholic priests) that are trying to control your thoughts... Your soul is outside your body, kind of like a conscience, and it's called a demon... And, not to mention the fact that the author openly protests C.S. Lewis's famed Narnia chronicals... I think there is a good reason for them to draw attention to this movie.

Because they ARE religious nuts.

Religious nuts are against it becuase Lyra and Will "kill God" in the third book. This is not true. Lyra and Will don't kill him. As a matter of fact they are sad when he dies. Second, it is only someone playing God, not actually a god.

people are saying it's an atheist movie because in the movie the compass controls everything instead of a living being controlling everything, i think it's ridiculous that they say that, it's just a movie intended for kids, i don't think it's really about atheists, so people need to get their heads out of their a**

Religious nuts?! We are not nuts just because we defend our belief in God from nuts who try insult Him.
