This covers a wide range of roles for mothers, from nurturing to criminal, from single to scary. It's nearly 7 a.m., so I have to stop and sleep for a while. I'll come back to add more since I don't see lists that cover the titles I have in mind.

I'll come back to add names of the actresses who portray the mothers.

Mommy Dearest
Who Will Love My Children
Stepmom

Almost every and any film made after 1990 has reduced the role of woman to that of a `mother`.

`Bridget Jones` mother who is abused as a careerist and as a single woman.

All those dreadful Macauly Culkin films where the mother is an adjunct to the dreadful little boy (probably a midget)

Any and all those films about Xmas in Connecticut, etc. with Chevy Chase and Beverly D`Angelo as the mother. Even Diane Keaton as the mother of the baby in `Baby Boom` and then as the mother in the remake of `Father of the Bride`.

All the MGM films, `Meet Me in St. Louis`. Ann Doran and Mary Astor specialized in playing Metro mommies.

Myrna Loy was the best wife-mother ever, although her kid was a dog named Asta. Myrna did a couple of films though where she had kids. She was funny, witty, warm......intelligent, clever. The atypical mother.

But since 1990.....boy, have women taken a tumble.

Meet the Parents Messenger
Meet the Fockers
Secret of Nimh
Parent Trap
Treasure Planet
An American Tail
ET
Mary Poppins
I'm drawing a blank for more.

try these

incredibles
step mom (julia roberts susan sarandon)
1 with sigorney weaver and jennifer love hewitt as hustlers 9heartbreakers i think)
the banger sisters (susan sarandon goldie hawn)
on a techinicality star wars 3 (padme has to hide pregnancy for anakins sake)
my step mom is an alien
coneheads

all i can think of for now

The Wind and The Lion--My favorite!
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
The Missing
Peter Pan
Bambi
Baby Geniuses
The Incredibles
The Lion King
Man In The Iron Mask--Leonardo's version
Zorro ( the 2nd one with Catherine Zeta Jones)
Swiss Family Robinson ( by Disney)
Finding Neverland
The Nativity Story
Mommy Dearest
Shrek 1,2,3
Gone With The Wind
The Last Samurai
A Cry In The Dark
Dr. DooLittle 2,3
The Mummy Returns
McLintock
Quigley Down Under
That is about as wide a spread as I can come up with. Unless you're looking for something specific in the nurturing and rearing department. Simply because none of these are typical of an actual mom. Moms are so much more than that, in any of them. Ask my wife.
