How to be a cinephile/cinemaphile?!
Question: ok... so I finally have this looong break in between semesters and i'm spending it watching as many movies as i can... can you guys recommend significant movies so that i can be on my way to be a movie buff?
*ive started with some from miike, kubrick, noe, miyazaki (anime), the coppolas..... etc

I could give you a very long list of films, but I think I shall look for some links to places that not only list films but also provide a description to help you make up your mind. I'm a film buff from way back, so I'd be happy to make suggestions.

you need to start with the foundations of cinema, do old movies. marylin monroe, gene kelly, etc. then start with more modern stuff. look up you fav movies for their directors and see what else theyve done.
try Casablanca, Sabrina, Big, Ghost, The Godfather, Scarface, Star Wars, Rear Window, Any Hitchcock, Vertigo, Some Like It Hot, Memento, and just keep going.
if youre reallly serious, get this book: 'Film Art: An Introduction' by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson
