I watched a War film over 10 years ago, I cant rememember the name of it though,!

Question: Hi there,

I don't know the name of the film, but the events you depict are those of the assasination of SS Stuermbannfuehrer Reinhard Heidrich in Czechoslovakia.

The Special Operations Executive (espionage in Europe) trained some Czechs to go on a (suicide?) mission to kill Hitlers top SS Nazi and evil bad guy. They dropped in by night and waited on a street corner where Heidrichs open top convertible always passed with minimal security. They tried to shoot him with a sten gun, but it jammed. They then threw a grenade at his car. Heidrich ordered his driver (stupidly) to stop the car so that he could shoot them. The grenade blast fatally wounded Heidrich and he died hours later.

The duo escaped on foot shooting a guard twice in the stomach at close range as SOE teaches. The gang hid in a church (in the crypt), but one of the gang got scared as he had family under pressure from the Gestapo nearby. He was promised that if he gave up his allies to the Germans his life and those of his family would be spared- a blatant lie.

The Germans surrounded and failed to storm the church and decided to get the fire brigade to flood the crypt with water. Knowing the game was up the two remaining heroes shot each other in the head.

The names of the men live on in Eastern Europe as heroes and they were decorated posthumously.

SOUNDS a bit like the film:- The Eagle has landed?
or the other one called:- where eagles dares?
I think that they were out about the same time,

I agree, Richard Burton film.

You perhaps mean Where Eagles Dare with Richard Burton.

Where Eagles Dare.
Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood.

The Dirty Dozen with Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson also is similar to your description.

Don't think it was The Eagle Has Landed.
That movie was about a German plan to
capture Winston Churchill. But not sure.

If you could remember who some of the actors
were it might help somebody nail it down.

There was one called The Heroes Of Telemark.
Think that was about sabotaging the Hard Water
storage facility to prevent the Germans from getting
the atom bomb.

Sorry can't help much.

I think it was The Eagle has landed (1977) with Michael Caine and Donald Sutherland.

Michael C is right. But I too cannot remember the name of the film. I believe it was given the same name as the code name for the operation
