I'm not sure if Rebecca DeMornay's left- or right-handed~or even ambidextrous. But, in this film, hers is the hand that rocks the cradle as she takes over the offending woman's role as mother. What a good choice she was, and she certainly did a great job as a vixen and homewrecker, without looking as if she's doing anything.
The real mother in this film wasn't exactly someone to warm the proverbial cockles of our hearts since she was "b-i-itchy". Again, it was good casting not to have a too-sympathetic mother.

I believe it was the left as sinister is the term used for the left side of the body and it was kind of creepy when I first watched it.
