I thought that I knew what it was, but this film is from 1959:
"The World, the Flesh and the Devil", starring Harry Belafonte, Inger Stevens and Mel Ferrer.

You'll find the plot summary here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World,_...
Here are a couple of excerpts:
African-American Ralph Burton (Harry Belafonte) becomes trapped underground in a cave-in while inspecting a mine in Pennsylvania. He can hear rescuers digging towards him, but after a few days they slow down and then stop completely. Alarmed, he digs his own way out. Reaching the surface, he finds a deserted world. Some discarded newspapers provide an explanation: one proclaims "UN Retaliates For Use Of Atomic Poison", another bears the headline "Millions Flee From Cities! End Of The World". Apparently everybody on Earth has been killed in a war; Ralph later plays tapes at a radio station that indicate that a dust of radioactive isotopes that becomes harmless after five days was used as a weapon.
Travelling to New York City in search of other survivors, he finds the city vacant. (Although the bridge into New York is jammed with abandoned cars, no bodies are ever seen.) Ralph busies himself restoring power to a building where he takes up residence. Just as the loneliness starts to become intolerable, he encounters a second survivor: Sarah Crandall (Inger Stevens), a white woman in her 20s.
The two become fast friends, but Ralph grows distant when it becomes clear that Sarah is developing stronger feelings for him. Despite living in a post-apocalyptic world, he can't overcome the issue of race that pervaded society before the disaster. Ralph regularly broadcasts on the radio, listening for other people. One day, he receives a signal from Europe, further strengthening his inhibitions.
Things become vastly more complicated when an ill Benson Thacker (Mel Ferrer) arrives by boat.

IMDB synopsis:
Harry Belafonte plays a miner who gets trapped in a small cave-in. He digs his way out to find every living soul on earth has vanished; that is until he discovers Inger Stevens. This tale of a post-apocalyptic world is heightened by some interesting sexual and racial overtones.

This is the only one in which the survivors match your question.

I am Legend? it sounds so similar to how you described it.

I think what you are describing is a movie released in 2007 named I Am Legend. I have no other history of a description like that.

I hope this helps! :)

The Dead zone. Written by Steven King

Omega Man with Charlton Heston. He's Caucasian but his love interest is African-American. I think it was the first big budget movie to feature an interracial relationship.

It was based on the book by Richard Matheson, "I am Legend".

Another adaptation is currently out with Will Smith, an African-American in the lead titled creatively enough, "I am Legend".

no such movie from 70's maybe another decade

It's probably "The Omega Man" (1971) with Charlton Heston. It's based on the Richard Matheson' novel "I Am Legend". Check the trailer on youtube.

Dayo Day light come and me want to get away!
