Question: How did that work...? He hid it in the vent of the first room, then got another room? Why did the tracking device go off in between the two rooms? Why did Llewellyn get a new room after he saw the truck infront of the motel? Could you explain this to me?

The air-conditioning vents for the motel were all connected, or at least somewhat connected, from one room to the next. When he gets his second room, he asks the hotel desk clerk to see a map of the rooms so he could see which opposing room was connected his same vent. Once he figured out which room was connected to, all he had to do was pull the case out from the vent the opposite way he put it in. Houses, motels, dorms, buldings, etc. are all connected through the same ventilation system. Thats why you always see people sneaking/breaking into buildings through the ventilation systems in movies.
The tracking device went off between the two rooms because that is where the suitcase was with the transmitter. He hid it in between the two rooms in the ventilation system. So technically the briefcase was not in either room, it was between them hence why the tracking device went off between them.
He got the new room because he knew people would be coming after him for the money. When he pulled up to the room he noticed the truck in front that had not been there before and the curtains of his room window had been moved. It was an extremely suspicious thing, so he decided to be safe and not return to the room. He proved to be right of course.
Llewellyn was extremely smart and resourceful and meticuoulsy planned out nearly every action he did in advance so he would be as safe as possible. He was also lucky, his luck and resourcefulness ran out eventually though (something he knew would probably happen soon or later too).
