The Thing... Again?!

Question: So, let me get this straight... They're remaking a remake of a movie based off a novella? Are they seriously going through with this? Has Hollywood lost their brains for the money? And are we ever going to make something original rather than work based off of stories and events, or more prequels and sequels, and last but not least; those damned remakes?

Obviously, you haven't read the story. Neither version captures it; each goes its own way, using only the most basic concept. "Who Goes There?" is a tale that remains to be successfully translated to the screen.

If anyone actually succeeds, this would be terrifying movie indeed! Yes, the two versions have their frightening moments. Sadly, John Carpenter's version relies too much on gore and special effects that dated rapidly. Technology and regulations affected the 1951 version.

Please read the original tale, and try to visualize how today's SFX might bring it to life at long last. Audiences haven't seen the real "thing" yet.

It's rather like waiting for the definitive Cthulhu.

Never, original thinking is the bane of visual/audio media.

mystmoon is absolutely right. give her 10 points. i still like john carpenters the thing though. i thought it was way better than the original
