Question: I don't get the ending. It was on TV the other night and I was in and out of the living room on several occasions. And I didn't get it when Sam gives the house that he helped his father build to a lady on a wheelchair. Who is she? Why did he do that? Did his father ask him to? For the life of me, I just couldn't get the ending...

that lady was a child when sam's grandfather killed her parents in a car crash and caused her to become paralyzed ( he was drunk). sam didn't wanna keep the house so he gave it to her to sort of make up what his grandfather did.
His father told him a story earlier in the movie.. that HIS father (sam's grandfather) was driving drunk and killed a family.. leaving their one young daughter crippled.. He was ashamed of what his father had done.. His father did not ask him to give it away, but.. I think he might have thought Sam might.. Basically, it is implying that the act of building the house was more important than keeping it.. it's also very symbolic.. by tearing down the grandfather's house, and rebuilding it for the woman who's life was forever changed by the grandfather it shows a closure..
