No country for old men, i don't find it that good... did i miss something?!

Question: So, the confession goes, I downloaded the movie and watched it,
i was on painkillers for my nerve pain and this and that, and the audio was rather weird, i was missing most of what the killer guy was saying.

To me no country for old men is no better than kill bill,
violence catches my eyes, in fact i don't know if there's a message in no country for old men, did i miss something?
what's the coens' message here if there is any?
the movie and the genre is of my taste but i just find it rather bland.

WARNING: SLIGHT SPOILER.

First of all, maybe go and see it again in the theater with the absence of pain killers.

Secondly, I think this movie is one of the Cohen brothers' best films and one of the best films I have seen in a really long while. It's riddled with messages and quick quips or wandering lines that have meaning layered into them, especially Chigurh's discussion with Carla and Sheriff Bell's dream. The movie takes some work, and that's what makes it interesting. Spend some more time with it. Look for clues, repetition of images, symbolic images, etc.

For example, here's one that I caught, and it clued me in right away to the fact that this movie was going to be smart: At the beginning, Llewelyn tracks the blood of black pitbull who has been shot/wounded in the front leg. He has a moment where he stares at the dog, and the dog stares at him, and then the dog continues on it's way. A momentary encounter. It's a quick moment, but why is it there? Well, if you keep it in mind, then you notice that someone at the end, without spoiling it for anyone else who MAY read this, has a very similar injury as the dog.

These are the types of things that are fun to look for. I won't analyze the movie for you because that's the fun part, but some major themes to think about if you watch it again are: chance, fate, Death (the figure) and dying, violence/nature of man, the design of "hero" and "villan."

I hope I haven't turned you off even more.

I was enjoying the movie, then it ended. I thought I fell asleep and missed some of it. I guess I'm going to have to wait for No country for old men #2.
