He could be nominated for it but it looks like the buzz is getting better for Daniel Day Lewis for There Will be Blood he's already won a couple of awards and he's also a former oscar winner so that's more likely. Depp has to make more serious movies to be considered for oscars doesn't mean he wasn't great in it.

I definitely agree that Johnny deserves an Oscar, but I don't think they will give it to him for this role. They seem to go mostly for more serious, dramatic movies... The Departed, Crash, Million Dollar Baby, etc.
I have been a Johnny Depp fan for over 10 years now and I think he should win an Oscar for all the amazing movies he has been a part of. Go Johnny!
PS- I think you should see Sweeney Todd!! I saw it last weekend and absolutely loved it! Johnny is obviously great, but Helena Bonham Carter was a pleasant surprise! She did an excellent job. Great costumes and sets too!
